BAT is building an HR system that recognizes, develops, and retains

BAT, one of the largest foreign investors in Croatia and the only local manufacturer and exporter of tobacco and smoke-free products, has received the Employer Partner certificate for the seventh consecutive year. In addition, the company has earned the prestigious Above and Beyond certificate, placing it among the top 10% of employers in the region for excellence in human resource management.

We have set high standards in HR management globally, so this recognition brings us great pride and motivation to keep improving the quality of our work environment for all our employees. We are committed to continuously enhancing working conditions and employee development, while also creating opportunities for young people. Our company is undergoing a major industry transformation toward creating A Better Tomorrow™, and we are constantly looking for talents who are ready for a dynamic environment and continuous learning, said Aslı Oktay, Head of HR for the Adria Cluster at BAT.

Globally, BAT employs 46,000 people, and in Croatia alone, directly employs 1,500 people while indirectly supporting as many as 6,000 jobs, confirmed by a study from the renowned Oxford Economics.

This year, BAT has once again confirmed its status as an Employer Partner, thanks to a clearly defined and strategically managed HR system through which they continuously introduce innovations and focus on employee development. Their learning and continuous development culture stands out, supported by digital tools and regular feedback. Additionally, their approach to innovation is not seen as a separate business segment, but as an integral part of everyday work. BAT consistently demonstrates what HR excellence looks like through a strong, inclusive, and innovative organizational culture, tailored to a dynamic business environment and future-oriented direction. Their practices are an excellent example of how a strategic HR approach can strengthen an organization’s readiness for future challenges and labor market needs, said Lara Šubić Šuša, Head of the Employer Partner project at SELECTIO Group.

In Croatia, BAT operates a unique value chain that includes tobacco farming in Slavonia and Podravina through Hrvatski duhani, a factory in Kanfanar that produces cigarettes and new category products, iNovine, the second-largest national kiosk chain, a logistics center in Rijeka, and a logistics hub in Pitomača that sources tobacco from 26 countries and supplies factories in Poland, Germany, and Hungary. The company also runs a commercial office in Zagreb, managing eight markets across the Adria region.
